Course Content These modules are aimed at people who have significant work experience but who do not have the required sufficient academic qualifications for entry into level 7 programmes (ordinary degree). All may be taken in one academic year.
Financial Support This course has been approved by ULearning Skillnet for a fees subsidy of up to 25% for students whose company is a member of the ULearning Skillnet network.

There are also a limited number of free places available for unemployed students who meet the required criteria by ULearning Skillnet.

Implement serial communications protocols on an 8-bit microcontroller.
Use software tools for digital signal processing.
Write embedded code for an 8-bit microcontroller.
Complete an embedded systems project with an 8-bit core.

Entry Requirements Merit Grade at Level 6 (Higher Cert) in Electronic Engineering or related discipline. Applicants who have successfully completed the Qualifiers in Electronic Engineering are also eligible. Applicants with other qualifications and/or with relevant industrial experience will also be considered through IT Sligo’s RPL process.
Course Content About Electronic Engineering
Modern electronic engineering systems are often referred to as embedded systems and these systems are the main focus of Electronic Engineering in IT Sligo. Embedded Systems combine hardware (electronic circuits), software (computer programs) together into products such as mobile phones, MP3 Players, computer network routers, aircraft guidance systems and automobile engine management systems.

About this Programme
This is year 3 (the award year) of the Level 7 BEng in Electronic Engineering.

Course Content About Electronic Engineering
Electronic Engineering at Level 8 investigates platforms for implementing advanced embedded systems. Typical platforms are 32-bit RISC processors, DSPs, FPGAs and configurable system on chip technology. These platforms may also incorporate the use of a real time operating system (RTOS). An important application area for advanced embedded systems is audio and image processing.

About this Programme
This programme is an add-on year to any Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electronic Engineering.
